🏖️5 Beautiful Florida Beaches Worth the Drive from Orlando 🏖️

Think Orlando is all about theme parks? Think again!

One of the best things about staying in Central Florida is that you’re just a short drive from some of the state’s most breathtaking beaches. Whether you’re looking for powder-soft white sand, crystal-clear water, great surfing, or spectacular sunsets, there’s a beach that’s perfect for you.

Here are our five favorite beaches—all within about 2½ hours of Magic Palms Retreat.

🩵 1. Siesta Key Beach (Our Favorite)

📍 Drive time: About 2 hours 15 minutes from Magic Palms Retreat

If we could recommend just one beach, this would be it.

Siesta Key is famous for its powdery white sand, made of nearly 99% quartz. Unlike most beaches, the sand stays cool under your feet—even on the hottest Florida days. Add calm turquoise water and a relaxed atmosphere, and it’s easy to understand why it’s consistently ranked among America’s best beaches.

Why We Love It

✔️ Incredibly soft white sand

✔️ Calm, shallow water that’s perfect for children

✔️ Stunning Gulf Coast sunsets

✔️ Plenty of room to spread out, even during busy seasons

Perfect for:

• Families

• Couples

• A full beach day

💡 Our tip: Arrive before 10:00 a.m., especially on weekends, to improve your chances of finding free parking.

🌊 2. Clearwater Beach

📍 Drive time: About 2 hours

Clearwater Beach is one of Florida’s most iconic beach destinations.

Its soft white sand, warm Gulf waters, waterfront restaurants, and lively atmosphere make it a fantastic place to spend the entire day.

Why We Love It

✔️ Beautiful beach promenade

✔️ Great restaurants and shops

✔️ Water activities for all ages

✔️ Famous sunsets and Pier 60 entertainment

Perfect for:

• First-time visitors

• Families

• Travelers looking for a lively atmosphere

💡 Good to know: Parking fills up quickly, especially in the afternoon. Getting there early makes a big difference.

🏄 3. Cocoa Beach

📍 Drive time: About 1 hour 20 minutes

Located on Florida’s Atlantic Coast, Cocoa Beach is famous for surfing and its laid-back beach-town vibe.

It’s also the perfect destination to combine with a visit to the Kennedy Space Center.

Why We Love It

✔️ One of the closest beaches to Orlando

✔️ Great surfing conditions

✔️ Iconic fishing pier with restaurants and shops

✔️ Easy day trip from Orlando

Perfect for:

• Surf lovers

• Families

• Travelers looking for a quick beach getaway

💡 Our tip: Check the rocket launch schedule before you go. If you’re lucky, you might witness a launch right from the beach!

🌅 4. New Smyrna Beach

📍 Drive time: About 1 hour 30 minutes

If you’re looking for a quieter beach with a more local feel, New Smyrna Beach is an excellent choice.

You’ll find beautiful stretches of sand, excellent local restaurants, and a charming downtown area.

Why We Love It

✔️ Relaxed atmosphere

✔️ Great local restaurants

✔️ Perfect for long beach walks

✔️ Beautiful Atlantic sunrises

Perfect for:

• Couples

• Travelers looking to escape the crowds

🐚 5. Canaveral National Seashore

📍 Drive time: About 1 hour 45 minutes

Nature lovers will absolutely love this protected stretch of coastline.

There are no large hotels or busy commercial areas—just untouched beaches, wildlife, and peaceful scenery.

Depending on the season, you may even spot dolphins, sea turtles, or a variety of coastal birds.

Why We Love It

✔️ Protected natural coastline

• Nature lovers

• Photographers

• Anyone looking for a peaceful beach experience

💙 Our Recommendation

If your Orlando vacation lasts a week or longer, make time for at least one beach day.

Many visitors spend their entire trip at the theme parks, but Florida’s coastline offers a completely different experience—and often becomes one of the highlights of the vacation.
